HOSPITAL VISITS

“Taste-of-Home” Hospital Visits

In 2006, the pastor of Park Valley Church in Haymarket, Virginia, asked the small group leaders in the church to organize a 40-day community service project. One of these small groups organized a “taste-of-home” Christmas celebration for service members undergoing treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  This event ignited a passion in the hearts of the group’s leaders who decided to host additional holiday events at military hospitals on a continuing basis throughout the National Capital Area, which continues to this day.

We organize these “taste-of-home” events at military hospitals throughout the National Capital Region, including Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.  These visits include an ever-changing variety of home-cooked meals, desserts, and gifts for the warriors and families. Willing Warriors was established in 2013 and has continued with this tradition; the root cause and motivating force of our mission.

Willing Warriors will continue to spread the word and organize these special events for service members and their families at military hospitals near and far to provide the "taste-of-home" to as many service members and Veterans as possible. And, most importantly, our volunteers will continue to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the recovering service members and their families and extend an invitation to come and stay at our Warrior Retreat.

 BBQ Events

We have continued in the vein of our Christmas hospital visits by hosting other “taste-of-home” events like summer BBQs at military hospitals throughout the National Capital Region, including Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.

Our volunteers have hosted special events of all kinds for more than 5,000 service members and family members providing home-prepared meals and gifts.  Most importantly, our volunteers extend their heartfelt gratitude to the recovering service members and their families and let them know about the opportunity to come and stay at our Warrior Retreat.
